Hello fantastic 2nd Graders and Families! My name is Megan Hughes and I am so excited to be your 2nd Grade teacher! This will be my eleventh year at Bear Canyon where I have primarily taught Second Grade, but also spent one year in First Grade, and two years in Kindergarten. 

 

I graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2006 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. After graduating, I taught Kindergarten for one year, followed by seven years in second grade.  During the summer of 2013, I moved from sunny Florida to mountainous Colorado to be closer to my family.

 

I was born in Kearney, Nebraska and moved to Southwest Florida at the age of six. I am the youngest of four, with two brothers and a sister. I love them! I was blessed to grow up by the ocean; exploring, swimming, and learning all about ocean animals and habitats. During the summers, I spent my time hiking and exploring the mountains of Colorado. The best of both worlds! 

 

I’ve had fun this summer going on hikes with my husband and dog, planting many flowers, going to the pool, and of course working on many fun activities for the coming year in 2nd Grade! This year will be an exciting one as my husband and I are expecting our first baby, a little boy, in mid-November!

 

I am so excited to be your teacher as we begin a wonderful year of learning during the 2023-2024 school year! My classroom is centered on exploration, collaboration, and teamwork. It is a safe place where students know they can try new things, make mistakes, and learn through fun activities. I look forward to meeting each one of you in August and cannot wait for the wonderful year ahead!

 

Meet-N-Greet is scheduled for the morning of August 7th. Parents will begin in the gym with a session to meet our new Principal.  

(15-20 minutes and then will transition to classrooms)

• Session 2 (Gym First, then Classrooms) 10-11:15 (M-Z)

Please plan on having students bring all their school supplies to school on their meet-N-Greet Day. For families who ordered school supplies last spring, supplies have been delivered to BCE and will be given to students at Meet-N-Greet.
